Botox® Relaxes the Muscles that Cause Wrinkles

Botox® is manufactured by Allergan, and is the gold standard in neurotoxins, a term used to describe injectibles that relax muscles. Botox® has been around and approved for cosmetic use in the US by the FDA since 2002. Since that time, Botox® injections have become the number one cosmetic treatment worldwide. The most common area to receive Botox® is in the glabella, or the lines between the brow, often referred to as the “11s”.  Botox® is also commonly used to treat the crow’s feet.

Though these are the most common treatment areas, Botox® can be used to relax other areas of the face, as well as treat hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating), and migraine headaches. For more information on the uses of Botox® in the lower face, for sweating, or for migraines.

Botox® works by relaxing the muscles that cause the expressions that lead to wrinkles. Used consistently over time it can fade deep wrinkles. This “relaxing” is what also makes Botox® a wonderful tool for treating headaches and sweating. By relaxing the muscles, or the sweat glands, patients who suffer with these concerns find relief. In general, Botox® lasts about 3-4 months. You will start to notice your Botox® wearing off as you are gradually able to make more exaggerated movements in the treated areas again.

Botox® is sold by the unit, and the average number of units for maximum correction is 50-60. When looking for a Botox® provider, you want to ensure that your provider is a skilled injector with many years of experience. Ideally, your Botox® provider should be a physician who understands facial aesthetics. Every face is unique and a physician is best trained to understand your unique facial structure. While pricing for Botox® varies by region and injector, we charge $12 per unit* (price subject to change) for our loyal, returning patients.

Botox® pricing should also include a full consultation with a physician. Dr. Janowski works with each patient to create a unique plan based on both their beauty goals and their budget.

Dermal Filler: Add volume and lift

Botox® and dermal fillers are the perfect combination to create a more youthful and refreshed looking you. As Dr. Janowski likes to say, Botox® and fillers are like peanut butter and jelly – they can be eaten separately, but taste best together!

Whereas Botox® relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles, dermal fillers add volume and lift. As we age, we all lose volume in our faces (and also in our hands). This loss of volume makes us look older. Try looking at a picture of your younger self. Your face was fuller, and that fullness made you look younger. Dermal fillers are commonly used to add volume to the lips, to fill in the “parenthesis lines” around the mouth, and to add volume in the cheeks. Dermal fillers can also be used to add volume in the jaw, to fill in fine lines around the mouth, to add volume under the eyes (for deep set eyes and dark circles), to fill in deep wrinkles and scars, or to correct a “crooked” nose. There are many more uses for dermal fillers, and a physician like Dr. Janowski can advise you on all your best options.

The injection and proper placement of dermal fillers is an art, and you want someone experienced and with an exacting knowledge of the facial structure. Dr. Janowski is known for his natural results, and for his technique, which creates less bruising and minimal discomfort during the injections themselves. Dermal fillers are generally formulated with a pain killer built in, so the injection of them is very minimally uncomfortable.

There are several dermal filler choices, and Dr. Janowski will help you select the type that both meets your goals, and aligns best with your facial structure. By far our most popular filler is Juvederm. Juvederm is also manufactured by Allergan, and is a soft filler, great for areas like lips and around the mouth. Juvederm is made of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body.

Fillers generally last from 6 months to 2 years, depending on the location they are injected, and your own unique body chemistry.

We most commonly use 5 different dermal fillers, Radiesse, Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, Juvederm Voluma, and Beloterro — each with their own distinct purposes and unique characteristics. Fillers are sold by the syringe – and pricing ranges from $565 to $795, depending on which product you select. Because they last so long, dermal fillers are a great value. As an added bonus, the injection of fillers stimulates collagen growth under the skin, which in turn gives you added natural volume and new cell regeneration.
