What are bioidentical hormones?

We’ll start by talking about about what hormones are, and what they do. In short, hormones are naturally produced chemicals that send signals to almost every part of your body. They control everything from your mood, to growth, and even body hair.

Bioidentical hormones are man-made, and are used in the same exact way by your body. They are a much needed supplement for many people who suffer from a hormone imbalance or deficiency.

 Hormones are created by the endocrine glands and released into the bloodstream to the appropriate body part(s). Among other functions, they control:
  • Metabolism
  • Sexual function and health
  • Growth
  • Reproduction

Many people experience either a reduction in hormones due to age or a hormone imbalance. Two of the most common side effects of this are unexpected weight gain and mood swings that are difficult to regulate (and affect day-to-day life). 

For people suffering from hormone loss due to age, or an unbalance, bioidentical hormones can be a wonderful solution.

Is BHRT safe? 

Studies have shown that bioidentical hormones are much safer, and much more effective, than non-bioidentical hormones. Data and clinical outcomes show that bioidentical hormones are associated with a decreased risk of breast cancer and cardiovascular disease. As with any prescription drug, it is VERY important to consult your Dr. before starting. BHRT is not for everyone, and our staff will perform a full evaluation with you prior to prescribing.
