The author, Joel Stein, describes the rise of cosmetic procedures – from surgery to Botox® – in the US and around the world. What was once reserved only for the rich and famous, is now the purview of the average American woman. In fact, the US ranks second in the world – right behind Brazil – in percentage of cosmetic treatments done.

The article makes the long-held argument that feeling youthful and confident positively affects your life, your career, your friendship, and your marriage. And looking and feeling confident, with the help of a little Botox® or fillers, isn’t just for women anymore. In 2014, U.S. physicians performed nearly 15 million cosmetic procedures, spending over $12.9 billion dollars on them.
