Facial fillers for lip enhancement, fuller cheeks, and smoothing wrinkles
Serving Denver, Broomfield, Westminster, Boulder, Arvada, and surrounding areas
What are cosmetic fillers, and what is Juvederm?
Fillers can be separated into 2 different categories: Hyaluronic Acid Wrinkle Fillers (shorter term) and synthetic collagen stimulating fillers (long term). In short, fillers help to diminish facial lines, restore volume, and add fullness to the face. As we age, we all lose volume in our faces (lips, cheeks, under eyes) as there is generally a loss in subcutaneous fat. As there is less fat, our muscles work closer to the skin, creating deeper smile lines and crows feet.
There are other factors that contribute to deeper lines and loss of volume, including sun exposure, lifestyle, and genetics. Cosmetic fillers can literally fill in the areas of volume loss, giving us the appearance of a more youthful face, at a fraction of the cost (and downtime) of “traditional” surgical facelifts.
Although Juvederm is a hyaluronic filler (“shorter term”), produced by Allergan, it is considered one of the longer lasting facial injectables. It has long been one of the most popular fillers in the world, most well known for it’s use in lip injections and lip augmentation. It’s an incredibly versatile crystal clear gel that can be used for much more than lip enhancement, however. Juvederm is great for filling out facial wrinkles and facial folds, as well. It’s completely biologically degradable, and is almost identical to the hyaluronic acid that’s found naturally in our bodies, just slightly modified (0.5 – 1%).
We achieve wonderful results in softening the naso-labial folds (the parentheses lines around the mouth), under the eyes, in the cheeks, for lines around the mouth, and especially for adding volume in the lips.
Dr. Janowski uses a very advanced technique, in our Broomfield office, for injecting Juvederm using microcannulas that dramatically reduces the chances of bruising and allows for the most precise placement.
There are many different types of Juvederm products that we offer. Each one has different benefits for different areas. The best way to determine which is best for you is to schedule a free 1-on-1 consultation with Dr. Janowski.
We have put together a comprehensive “buyers guide” with more information you should know before getting dermal fillers, a full “aftercare instructions” guide, and a multitude of instructional demo videos so you can get the most out of your cosmetic fillers!
Best uses of Juvederm
Juvederm can be used to smooth out wrinkles, smile lines, and enhances lips instantly. It works well for the parenthesis lines around the mouth, for lines around the mouth, for hollowness under the eyes and to add fullness to the lips. The treatment is performed by injecting directly into the skin or lips. No skin test is required. The procedure typically takes less than 30 minutes.
Lift and contour cheeks
As we age our cheeks can begin to flatten and skin may sag, causing a “hallowness” below the eyes. Experts call this “age related midface volume loss”, which is caused by a natural loss of volume in the cheek area. Juvederm Voluma XC is specifically designed to add volume just beneath the skin’s surface, lifting and contouring the cheek area.
Smooth parentheses lines and wrinkles
We all know that wrinkles come with age, especially in the face. Smile lines, parentheses lines, crows feet, etc. are created as our skin loses elasticity over time. Contrary to serums and creams, which work on the skins surface, Juvederm adds volume to the face, naturally smoothing the lines and folds caused by aging. Typically, Juvederm XC and Juvederm Vollure XC are best for parentheses lines and wrinkles.
Natural looking lip enhancement
Juvederm, in particular Ultra XC and Volbella XC, is best known as an amazing filler for extremely natural looking lip enhancement - adding subtle volume and softening the appearance of lip lines. Whether you have naturally thin lips, have noticed a loss in volume over time or an increase in vertical lip lines, Juvederm may be perfect for you.
Types of Juvederm
Juvederm comes in a variety of “grades” which are used for a variety of purposes in our Broomfield, Colorado office. What type we use depends on your specific needs - lip enhancement, cheek filler, smile lines, etc.
Below are the different products we use:
- Juvederm Ultra XC – Adds more fullness to and plumps lips
- Juvederm Ultra Plus XC – Used for deeper and more pronounced smile lines
- Juvederm Voluma XC – Lifts and contours cheeks
- Juvederm Volbella XC – Adds subtle volume to lips and smoothes vertical lip lines
- Juvederm Vollure XC – Best used to smooth and soften moderate to severe facial wrinkles
Pre-care & aftercare instructions
Some quick tips to help you get the most out of your injectable fillers
What to do before treatment
To lessen the possibility of bruising or swelling, you should refrain from using Aspirin, Excedrin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, and Advil 7 – 10 days before injections. Also avoid St. Johns Wort and high doses of Vitamin E (multi vitamins should be fine). If you take aspirin for medial purposes, you can continue use.
Aftercare instructions for Juvederm
We have put together a comprehensive guide of aftercare instructions for all fillers, including Juvederm, in order to help you get the most out of your facial fillers. Proactive maintenance is recommended, and the actual lengths of results vary from patient to patient. Frequently asked questions about fillers
These are some quick answers to questions we get every single day regarding fillers, especially Juvederm. If you have questions you don’t see answered here, please feel free to give us a call at 303.469.0064 or schedule a free consultation with Dr. Janowski.
What does "XC" mean?
The XC, in Juvederm Voluma XC for example, refers to adding a small amount Lidocain to the filler in order to reduce discomfort during the injections.
What is the procedure like?
Juvederm is injected into the dermis and provides volume where the concentration of the body’s own hyaluronic acid has decreased. The results can be seen immediately.
Do I need to come in for repeat or maintenance treatments?
Yes. All dermal fillers require maintenance. The time between injections depends on aftercare, the area treated, and your body chemistry and lifestyle.
How long does the treatment take?
The treatment takes about 20-30 minutes and the result is immediate.
Does it hurt?
When treating wrinkles, pain relief is usually not needed but can be easily achieved with topical anesthetic and or a local anesthetic placed by the doctor. However, Juvederm itself is formulated with lidocane (a local pain killer), and so the area is actually numbed as it is being injected. The vast majority of patients report little to no discomfort.
What are the side effects or risks?
Reactions are very uncommon, but about 1 in 2000 persons have experienced transient swelling, redness and tenderness at or near the treatment site(s) up to several weeks after treatment. For further details concerning your specific treatment, please consult the doctor.
What is the recovery time?
Immediately after the treatment the treated area can be slightly swollen and red. Some patients may also experience bruising around the injection site. This is a normal result of the injection, and it generally goes away in 72 hours. We provide all patients with ice and topical Arnica (if appopriate) which helps alleviate bruising and swelling. We also recommend patient avoid (if medically appropriae) blood thinner like Ibupofen or Aspirin, as these can increase the risk of bruising.
When will I see results?
You will see results immediately after injection, however it can take a few days to “settle in” often looking even better in a day or two.
How long to the results last?
How long the effect of Juvederm treatment lasts is very individual. It depends on many factors, such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle and age as well as on the degree of perfection desired by the individual. For the majority of patients, 50-80% of the effect remains after 6 months. Most people choose to have a touch up done within a year of the original treatment. Juvederm can offer a high degree of patient satisfaction even up to one year after treatment. Because of its long-lasting effects, Juvederm is a great value.
How much does Juvederm cost?
Costs can vary, depending on the area treated and how many units you need. Cost includes not only the price of the product, but more importantly the skill and expertise of the injector. Although our prices are very competitive, we believe it’s most important to find an experienced specialist, such as Dr. Janowski who is an official trainer, who will take the time to understand your treatment goals and develop a plan that is right for you. Be wary of discount or “cheap” products and injectors – if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
