What is Cellulite?
In the medical field, cellulite is referred to as “adiposis edematosa,” “dermopanniculosis deformans,” “status protrusus cutis,” and “gynoid lipodystrophy.” While there are many scientific terms, cellulite is pretty straightforward to explain. It is simply “persistent subcutaneous fat causing dimpling of the skin, especially on women’s hips and thighs.”
Cellulite is often classified into three grades.
- Grade 1 cellulite is the least noticeable and is characterized by an examination of cells from the area which detects underlying anatomical changes. Grade 1 cellulite is the kind you notice when pressure is applied, i.e when sitting in a chair or pinching the skin.
- Grade 2 cellulite is a more noticeable and can be seen when you are standing, but not when lying down.
- Grade 3 cellulite is most common and includes a visible roughness and dimpling of the skin along with reduced firmness of the skin. You will see cellulite dimples both when standing and when lying down. If cellulite is too severe, you may not get your best results with VelaShape, and may want to consider fat elimination with Weight Loss first.
VelaShape is indicated for Grade 1, 2 and Grade 3 cellulite and has been proven to show results in reducing all symptoms of cellulite including improving the size, contour and texture of the treated area.
Right after your treatment, your skin will feel firmer and smoother. Over time, usually within a couple of weeks, you will also start to notice the circumference size of the treated area getting smaller and smaller, with best results at with best results at ten weeks. Besides treating cellulite on the hips and bottom, VelaShape is effective for treating cellulite and loose skin on the arms, back, waist, abdomen, flanks and even knees. We also love the VelaShape for tightening skin under the chin.
How Does VelaShape Work?
VelaShape uses a combination of three different technologies; the mechanical suction of a Vacuum, heat from Infrared Light and Bi-polar Radio Frequency.
Firstly, vacuum energy elevates the targeted tissue, ensuring the efficacy of Infrared Light and Bi-polar Radio Frequency. Then, Infrared Light and Radio Frequency work together and heat the layers of the skin and penetrate as deeply as up to ½ an inch (5-15 mm). Radio Frequency increase the intracellular oxygen diffusion by heating the adipose (fatty) tissue while the Infrared Light increases skin elasticity.
Although there is heat generated, most patients report the treatment as feeling like a warm kneading massage. Skin temperature can reach as high as about 104 degrees Fahrenheit, exactly the same temperature as a typical hot-tub.
Since its introduction in 2008, numerous studies have validated VelaShape’s efficacy. Just a single example: In a clinical study of forty-two patients, an average abdominal circumference reduction of 2.6 cm [1.02 inches] was achieved following a single VelaShape treatment protocol. In 2013, the FDA cleared the device for Abdominal Circumferential Reduction.*
